All About Kumquat

June 12, 2023

The kumquat is a small, orange-like citrus fruit full of cleansing properties and all the uplifting sweetness you’d expect from a tiny but mighty member of the citrus family. In Brazil, the rind of this little fruit — about the size of a large olive — is cold-pressed to extract dōTERRA® Kumquat essential oil. The oil’s main chemical constituent is limonene, the all-star uplifting cleanser that makes citrus oils so positively purifying and cheerful.

Kumquat oil can be used aromatically, topically, or internally. Isn’t that such a fun thing about citrus oils? They offer familiar aromas and tastes, making them extra comforting to use in all those different ways. Drink a drop of Kumquat in your water to support cleansing, or apply to the bottoms of feet to offer holistic support to the hardworking nervous and immune systems. Add a drop to your toothbrush for a squeaky-clean daily brushing experience. For a boost in mood, diffuse or deeply inhale Kumquat on its own. One of many things I’ve been loving about my oils lately is the instant escape delivered by just one drop between the palms, with a deep breathe and eyes closed. You just can’t beat it; and for you citrus lovers, your Kumquat experience is sure to take you somewhere wonderful!

Make your diffuser swim with citrus using this pure and joyful combination.

Fruity Sparkle

• 3 drops Kumquat

• 3 drops Clementine

• 3 drops Red Mandarin

All three oils included in this blend are available only at certain times, by special promotion only; so if you don’t have them all, simply substitute Wild Orange or Citrus Bliss. Additionally, other trusty classics such as Lemon or Lime oil can stand in as substitutes to achieve that sweet citrus grove atmosphere.

Kumquat also blends well with rich, woody oils such as Cedarwood and Frankincense. Place Kumquat oil among the ranks of the bold and powerful by including it in a handy immune- support roller blend. Combine the following in a 10mL roller bottle topped off with Fractionated Coconut Oil: 10 drops Kumquat, 10 drops Frankincense, 5 drops Cinnamon Bark, and 5 drops Black Pepper. This power-packed roller blend should last you a good long while as you use it to deliver soothing, uplifting support, particularly to the bottoms of feet. That’s such a great place to absorb the properties each oil has to offer, without having to worry about skin sensitivity!

Anytime you would use your classically beloved Lemon oil, you can substitute Kumquat. That means adding it to homemade surface cleansers as well as to hair and skincare routines. You name it, Kumquat is able to help you clean it. Mix up the citrus routine with this new fruit on the block, and turn on this refreshing vacation of a diffuser blend:

Hawaiian Sunset

• 3 dros Kumquat

• 2 drops Ylang Ylang

• 2 drops Sandalwood

Kumquat oil’s aroma is deliciously sweet, so you may be surprised to learn that although both the fruit and rind of these olive-sized treats are edible, it’s the rind alone that’s sweet: the inner fruit is actually sour. As the sun sets on our exploration all about Kumquat oil, which dōTERRA brings to us from the mild climate of southern Brazil, I hope you’re imagining the refreshing zest of citrus on the breeze. With a tiny but mighty bottle of Kumquat in your hand, you have anytime access to the refreshing, cleansing zest contained within this adorable little citrus.
